Radio waves and mobile phone

Although it is under no obligation to do so, Proximus wants to be the first operator in Belgium to publish the SAR values of each mobile phone of the Proximus Collection.

SAR = Specific Absorption Rate

SAR stands for and is the unit for measuring the quantity of electromagnetic energy that is absorbed by the human body when a mobile phone is used.

The maximum allowed SAR in Europe is 2 Watt/kg in accordance with the ICNIRP guidelines.

The ICNIRP (International Commission on Non-Ionising Radiation Protection) is a politically independent commission of scientists. It has established international guidelines on the exposure of humans to all types of electromagnetic fields, including radio frequency radiation.

Maximal and actual SAR-values

Although the SAR is determined on the basis of the highest allowed energy level, the actual SAR level of the phone when in use may be considerably lower than the maximum value specified.

  • This is because the phone is designed for use at different energy levels so it does not consume more energy than is necessary to make a connection with the network.
  • In general, the closer you are to a transmission mast, the less energy the phone uses.
  • Using mobile phone accessories can also result in different SAR values.

Information in all transparency

Although it is under no legal obligation to do so, Proximus informs you in all transparency about the SAR value of all the Proximus Collection mobile phones. You will find the SAR value in the general characteristics of each device shown in our mobile phone catalogue.
